Urology Health Awareness

Urology Health Awareness

Your urology health relates to the 'urogenital system' in both men and women, parts of your body responsible for producing, storing and discharging urine (kidneys, bladder, urethra) and the parts of your body involved in sexual function (prostate, penis, and testicles). The importance of urology health needs to be highlighted to increase public awareness of urological cancers, diseases and conditions that can affect the kidneys, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs.

Raising topics that are quite often not talked about but should be, we need to try and remove the stigma and encourage people to talk more openly, to discuss symptoms and their impacts, and to actively consider how they can take care of their urology health.

Overall wellbeing is the core reason behind our business and our desire to produce quality supplements to support good health. Urology is just one aspect of our health that some supplements have been researched and recommended for.

Amongst those supplements are a few listed below:

Lycopene - Lycopene is a member of the carotenoid family. It is found in red and pink fruits such as grapefruit or watermelon, and is the pigment that gives them their colour. Lycopene is most widely known to be found in tomatoes. Lycopene has potent antioxidant capabilities. Antioxidants protect against oxidative stress and cell damage caused by unstable compounds in the body known as free radicals.

Lycopene has been subject to numerous studies and ongoing scientific research into potential benefits. It has been associated with a range of uses for health including for Men’s health; protecting prostate health [1].

Cranberry Fruit Complex - The cranberry has long been used throughout history as a common treatment for urinary infections. Studies have shown that the activity of its principal substances, fructose and anthocyanidins, hinder E. coli bacterium adhesion to the urothelium. Regular use of cranberry products seem to be especially beneficial for women with recurrent UTIs to help prevent infection [2].

Saw Palmetto – Another popular men’s health supplement, saw palmetto is a shrublike palm and is native to the south-eastern United States. The berries of the plant are commonly used in supplements. Saw palmetto is most commonly used for decreasing symptoms of an enlarged prostate called benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Urinary tract symptoms are common in older men and can include incontinence and difficulty urinating. Amongst its benefits Saw Palmetto is said to support prostate health, and improve urinary function [3]. One study treating 85 older men over the age of 45 with Saw Palmetto was shown to reduce lower urinary tract symptoms, increase urine flow, and improve overall quality of life.
